Nick Garbutt On Line
Wild Madagascar on BBC2 The amazing wildlife and forests of Madagascar brought to your own home. Starting Wednesday 9th February for three consecutive weeks, Wild Madagascar is the latest sumptuous offering from the BBC Natural History Unit. Nick was an adviser on this series. Read his accompanying feature in the February issue of BBC Wildlife magazine.
Nick is an award-winning wildlife photographer and author who has a passionate concern for biodiversity and the fragile environment we inhabit.
While his background is in zoology, he realised early in his academic career that it was too constraining and he subsequently found the avenues of photography and popular natural history writing provided the freedom he wanted to indulge in and express his interests in the natural world.
Nick is best known for his work in tropical rainforests, where the diversity and complexity of life prompts relentless curiosity and inspiration. He is also intrigued by the peculiarities of islands, with the faunas of Borneo and Madagascar being two of his particular favourites.
Nick has travelled to many regions of the world, from both Poles to the Tropics and has photographed wildlife in numerous iconic locations. His images appear in books, magazines and other publications globally, while his own books, that combine his photography, writing and illustration have received wide critical acclaim.
He is based in Cumbria, United Kingdom and when not travelling, behind a camera or in front of his computer, can be found on a local golf course or trying to coax a fat Brown Trout from a difficult lie on a local river, with a dry fly.
