Namibia
Namibia combines ruggedness and contrast with sublimity and beauty like few other places on earth. There are giant dunes, the largest in the world, where winds constantly sculpture the shifting grains with an exquisite touch; in ancient watercourses, long since dry, desiccated trees stand like sentinels; while Gemsbok wander endlessly over a sea of sand in search of grazing.
Along the remote Skeleton Coast an austere landscape stretches away to the eastern horizon, while to the west the vast expanse of the southern Atlantic Ocean lies sullen and menacing. At the shoreline, the contrasts collided - pounding icy seas meet ancient desert sands, with banks of treacherous fog that swirl ethereally and dissipate in wisps, like steam from a simmering pot. It is raw.
